The stereo doesn't tell you what disc is playing but that is fine with me. It works well. I leave my stereo on all day and it is holding up well.
The unit has performed flawlessly and certainly adds enjoyment to our home. We listen to significantly more music now than before we got the changer. I bought the Pioneer PD-F1009 301-Disc CD-File Changer several months ago and we love it. It holds every CD we have and keeps them in one place ready to play.
I bought this CD changer for my extensive Symphonic and Operatic recordings. After reading the reviews on these products, I cannot understand how Sony can still put out such a poor piece of equipment as the CDP-CX355. The CDP-CX255 has worked well for years.
It plays flawlessly with the most intricate music. Thank you Pioneer for offering such a fine piece of equipment at a fair price. I can finally listen to my recordings, secure in the knowledge that they will be played safely.
I have a Sony CDP-CX255 200 CD changer and a Sony CDP-CX355, 300 CD changer. I have never been happier with a purchase. [[ASIN:B00004RDL5 Pioneer PD-F1009 301-Disc CD-File Changer
In the CDP-CX355, my CD's have skipped, been scratched, and basically been unplayable on an intermittent level. After looking at reviews, I decided to purchase the Pioneer PD-F1009.
That was a big step down from being able to enter all three. I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews before ordering this unit for my wife. That brand is no longer available, so I searched for a substitute. Our old player, from the mid 1990's, stored a category, artist, and title each time you loaded a CD. We're going to join the modern world and load all the old CD's into an MP3 player (an iPod or maybe a computer) instead.
I don't understand why anyone with the engineering talent to design a carousel mechanism that works this well would cripple it by forcing the user to select from 301 CD's solely by disc number. Such a user interface would be appropriate for a 5-disc changer, not one this big.Sadly, I'm going to have to return this product. The unit works smoothly and quietly. You can set up a list of favorites, but the programming is all by disc and track number. On the positive side, loading CD's is wonderfully easy.
It was easy to play all your Christmas music, or all your Beatles CDs, or find a CD titled "Sound of Silence". If the CD happens to have CD+Text on it (or you don't mind burning a new copy of each CD in your collection with the text added), the Pioneer will display the text, but you still can't search and select music in a convenient way. We needed to replace an old Fisher 150 CD player that worked great for over 10 years but recently started to jam. Imagine my disappointment to discover that this Pioneer product doesn't let you enter any text at all.
Sure, it took a couple hours to load our entire CD collection and enter the information, but the payoff was thousands of hours of musical enjoyment.I had read from other reviews that the new Sony 300 and 400 CD changers let you enter only one label for each disc, forcing you to choose between genre, artist, and title. You could search by any of the above. We really enjoyed those features.
If you're doing something else (like reading), you really don't notice the lag. The products of Sony, which also sells this type of changer, are too deep. I suspect that burning 250 albums would take many times that.Cons: one disappointment is the length of time in between songs. You can program 5 different groups and then listen to songs in the group randomly.
This product provides a great solution to someone (a) with a ton of CDs that sit in a drawer or a box in the basement, and (b) who doesn't want to expend the time or money to buy the electronic versions of these albums and burn them onto an iPod. However, if I were throwing a party and wanted to keep the beat going, this would be a problem. I figured it would be longer than an iPod, but it averages 20 seconds (I timed it), which is longer than I expected. Thanks to this product, my wife and I have been listening to music that we hadn't heard in years.
Also, putting all of my CDs in the changer and creating a log took only about 4 hours. A second drawback is the number of custom groups: we could've used a few more. The jury's out: I just got this about 2 or 3 months ago, so I don't yet know how durable it is. Pros: in addition to those just described, we bought this product frankly because it fit our audio-visual cabinet. The feature that I really enjoy is the custom group feature.
