When it died, (pieces of broken parts fell out) I decided to go with the Pioneer from Amazon. The previous 300CD changer/player by another famous maker started "limping" appx. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. It has a much smoother changing mechanism, controls are logical, and the music sounds excellent. 3 months after the warranty expired. The mechanical parts always sounded loose and clunky, and would jam now and than.
So far we have not had any problems with our Pioneer and we love it. We had a sony before this item. We could not play random, as the cds would jump out and get distroyed.
Even with that the carousel won't move. So, I've had to take my system hookups apart, remonve the Pioneer CD changer from the mix, unscrew the cabinet and take out all 290 or so CDs that I have by hand from the top. So now I can wrestle with Pioneer service (I bought the unit via Amazon) to see if I can get it fixed between now and Christmas and at what cost to myself. I have had this CD changer for less than two months and it has just quit working. The carousel won't turn.
Consider the extended warranty if you really want this machine. A year and 10 days after purchase, there was a clunking noise as the CD changed, That was that: the mechanical arm that loads the CD into the player compartment broke. Instead of going the repair route, we are changing over to mp3 and lossless formatting.
I repeated the process three more times and had the same results. This person at least ran me through the steps that I had taken, only to confirm that I did everything correctly.
I now had to manually unload all 300 cd's and return the unit to the store for a refund. He advised that the lithium battery was apparently no good and unable to store the file memory.
After just purchasing this product I spent hours loading 300 cd's and cataloging them so I could tell where each cd was located. Not satisfied with that response I called customer service back later in order to speak with another representative.
In the meantime I am awaiting delivery of the Sony changer that I should have ordered in the first place. I proceeded to set up the 5 files of custom preferences, try each, and found the next time I turned on the unit all the customized files were erased.
Contacting customer service to determine what if any errors I made I was informed that the unit must be faulty and to return it to the store where I purchased it.
